Just watched 9 & 10 they were worse then bad – they were boring. I can’t even really think of anything in 9 to comment on, the dialogue was painful and unbelievable. I actually started getting so bored I started fast forwarding it a little. What happened in that episode? I don’t even know and at this point don’t really care.
Episode 10 was a little bit better, but not by much. I started fast forwarding through a couple of the heartfelt conversations between the professer, docter and his dip shit sons. What I found sort of funny is the rediculousness of how they treat little Ricky. He is apparently going full traitor, telling the aliens all about the resistance plans. He even knocks a guy out and tries to sabotage some of the defenses in preperation for the coming attack (which he helped bring about). Once he is recaptured what is his punishment for that … nothing! He says he is sorry and he gets put back into general population even though he was like crawling up a wall like a fly earlier.
Then finally it got to the end which looked like it was going to be a big fight scene or some type of action. There was the fight at the school and one mech and like two faceless extras got killed. Then they didn’t even show Weaver and his people get destroyed. Next thing you know, Pope, Weaver, and the black cop(who doesn’t die, which is a miracle) are just sitting around in a bunch of ruins. Then professor comes and takes an rpg which is tipped in mech metal and shoots it way the hell up into the air and takes out a alien plane. I’m not the biggest military buff but I kind of thought rpg were used against tanks that are close, not planes. But whatever, then the blonde girl comes back and she has a harness on so she is like the mouth piece of a tall willow alien guy. Then professor goes with the alien on his ship, like a dumb ass, because some how he is going to save his son.
Well can’t wait for Walking Dead and Breaking Bad to be back on again after watching this piece of crap.
I actually think this might have been the best episode so far. It wasn’t great or anything but at least there were not any laugh out loud moments. The sci-fi story underneath the BS is pretty good. The doctor and the the religious girl found a harness inside one of the the skitters so it’s looking like the harnesses eventually make you into a skitter.
The also introduced some creepy tall willowy aliens which were ok. There was not any extremely gratuitous “family” moments. Well except for the nonsense with Weaver wanting to go to his old home and go to sleep or whatever.
I think they should have just executed the red haired lady. I mean doesn’t leaving her alive mean she will sell out some other survivors. In this show they do the kinder gentler thing sometimes, that in the big picture means someone else will suffer because of it. The idea of good people having to do terrible things in war, in order to save lives in the long run is totally absent in this show.
Pope got some more screen time, which is good because he is the only good character on the show. The scenes in this episode with him reminded me of when Micheal Ironside’s character “Ham Tyler” debuted in V- The final battle. I don’t know if any of you have watched that but basically Pope is kind of like Ham in that he is kind of a bad guy who now fights for good. Ham also showed the resistance fighters how to make Teflon bullets which could pierce the Alien armor, does that sound familiar? Here is a video or Ham http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFgg3vHw6ms
I thought it was kind of funny, the contrast between Weaver who was going to give up fighting because his family died and Pope who appears to have no family or friends and is single minded in his desire to keep fighting.

Well there is a bunch of guys out there standing still in a group who want to kill me. Should I quietly aim and shoot one or two before they can get to cover? Naw I'll just yell and shoot wildly out the door
Well still watching, and it still isn’t really getting better. Which kind of sucks because the actual sci-fi story line is good. What happened in this episode … a lady gave birth, the military guy helped move the baby, the religious Mexican girl played the piano, the kids played soccer, the Mexican girl sang. Whole lot of exciting stuff right? Oh yeah another black good guy dies, actually two black guys and a white guy die on the good team, but the first black guy who dies doesn’t actually have a name or lines so not sure if he counts.
Oh yeah Pope came back and he is really the only interesting character in the show. It really didn’t make sense that he spared one of the traitors’ lives though. I mean he comes back later in the show and starts killing the collaborators, so why didn’t he take out that one when he had the chance. Maybe because it was close quarters with a knife and they didn’t want to show it…whereas someone shooting a gun and someone else falling down in the distance is acceptable in family television.
One thing that is pretty laughable is that no one seems to aim their guns, they also don’t seem to sneak attack people. When the kids were escaping they could have possibly taken out a couple of the guards, who were totally unaware. Also how about the traitor daughter who yells to warn the others they are escaping. They did nothing to her. They could have at least knifed her real quick to shut her up. Then at the end when they see her a second time, again they do nothing to her.
The funniest part was at the end when the Mexican girl started singing. I actually laughed out loud at that point.
Yeah this episode was boring, almost nothing happened. There wasn’t even really anything to laugh at or make fun of. Well there was those super fake tatoos on the blonde girl who supposedly had cancer when was sixteen. They rescued Ben and cut the harness off him. Off course he seems fine without the harness, unlike the black kid who was like a vegetable after they cut it off.
Actually the best thing was the one doctor got choked out by an alien. I thought for sure he was going to live and they would put him back together. Nope, dead on the spot. I actually think that might have been the high point of the episode.
Ok watched episode number 4 and it’s basically a pretty mediocre sci-fi show. Some of the scenes with the father and son are very soap opera. The cute kids are floating around. If they killed off all the characters that are under 18 it would become a better show.
They find out the alien sends out some sort of weak radio signal that it uses to control harnessed people. Basically the black kid Rick looks like a lost cause. There is some more foreshadowing that some how the “skitters” are controlled by some other alien life. These bits are what kind of make the show worth watching. I am curious to find out more about the aliens.
There are some scenes where the military guy and the father talk about how they would do anything for their kids, it’s very tiresome. I also was thinking that shouldn’t someone in the military be more disciplined. I mean there have been a lot of wars and people didn’t all just run home to run away with their kids. They fought and hoped for the best for their families but still kept fighting, well most of them. I’m sure some people left the fight and ran off with their kids. They would be deserters, wouldn’t they?
Then later there is some more bullshit with the kids. They are surrounded by harnessed zombie kids who are trying to kill them, and the father won’t shoot them because they are kids. Then later the military guy says something like “no one could shoot them”. What a bunch of crap, if some zombie vegetable kids were trying to kill me I would shoot them without any hesitation. Hell, in real wars when there are fights they burn up civilians, kids, women whatever, if that is what it takes to stay alive.
Then there is some religious nonsense with the little sexy light skin Mexican girl, who manages to be in full makeup even though everyone else is all dirt streaked. She talks about faith and being thankful and people all act like they care. Oh yeah then they eat the bread which was made by the convict guy Pope whom they gave a cooking job last episode. He escapes right before this, so I was wondering if he took a crap in the bread or something.
Ok , just watched episode three. It’s not really getting better or worse… it’s just kind of a weak sci-fi show. Pretty predictable and nothing has been very unique or original as of yet. It’s not really terrible though. If I was maybe 14 years old I would probably think this is pretty awesome, and perhaps that’s who it’s aimed at.
Since there is not a lot to comment on that is particularly outstanding I guess I can write about all the things that don’t really make sense. Obviously this whole site is giant spoiler and ramblings of my opinion on the show, rather then a real review. One of the first things I thought was ridiculous was the older general guy briefing the troops. He tells them they have to gather intelligence on the enemy and also to “search and requisition” supplies. No shit, Sherlock. They have been at war with the aliens in some form for six months , I would think that gathering intelligence and supplies have been what they have been doing the whole time. What does he think they are doing, I guess just hiding or something.
Then he suggests that they test the new “remove the harness” technique on “Ben”, the child of one of the main characters. I know, we got this untested, extremely dangerous new experimental technique and instead of testing it on some random orphan whose parents are most likely dead, let’s test it on the kid of someone who is essential as part of the team . Why not, I mean it makes sense right?
So then they go steal a black kid to test it on first. I also noticed the only guy to die so far was a black guy. Does falling skies have something against black people?
Then there are some really important scenes where they establish that the leader of the bad guys from episode 2 is a great cook, or chef. They then spend some time debating letting him cook, which they do, and he makes something that is ok to eat. Wasn’t that an exciting story arc? I was actually on the edge of my seat wondering if he could really cook or not.
Oh yeah, they find kids with harnesses out collecting scrap metal, like slave labor. I have to give to the show one of the young attractive blondes, I don’t know her name, does address this. She says something to the effect of “they came across space in huge spaceships to have kids collect scrap metal for them?”. I guess they did.
Also found it interesting that all the parents of missing kids had nice big 6 by 4 glossy photos of them, to put on the bulletin board about missing kids .
Well watched the second half of premiere last night and it got better. The scenes of the refugee camps were well done and the sets looked great. The 5 minute scene of the kids sharing the skate board sucked. I personally don’t have a wife or kids but if I did I doubt these scenes would seem better if I did. I feel like they keep adding all this cute kids stuff to try tug on the heart strings of people who have kids. The younger son is so cute it’s pretty annoying. The “I got to find my son” story arc has been done about a million times, and tiresome. I would like to see a sci-fi for once were when the aliens take some one, and their loved ones are like “screw it, he’s gone“.
The conflict with other humans was ok. What I kind of don’t understand was why the aliens leave trapped areas behind. They pretty much seem to be able to just crush any human resistance at will, why bother with trapping a grocery store. If they want to kill a bunch of people they can just go do it. Why are they attracted to flares? Why do they even care?
I started watching falling skies last night, and it was pretty terrible. I made halfway through the first episode and got bored and turned it off. I guess I will try giving it another chance tonight, but its pretty bad when your premiere doesn’t hook me.
The dialogue is bad, the characters are stiff and one dimensional. The main guy keeps talking about a missing son in a manner which is totally unbelievable. He is talking to soldiers in the middle of war and crying about his kid while there is non stop death all around them? The history lessons he keeps giving was kind of cool at first, but quickly get repetitive. The characters seem very stereotypical. You have the super cute son, the bad military guy, the tom girl motorcycle girl, the black soldiers beat boxing and dancing. I kept thinking “this is a show for kids, isn’t it”.
I know it’s probably dumb to hope for a good sci-fi alien show, but hey the first couple seasons of Battlestar Galactica were excellent, and this looks like it has more of a budget then that. The aliens look decent, with the metal suits and such. The putting harnesses on people is kind of creepy but all in all the show seems pretty weak.
Watching these trailers I am still up in the air on how good this is going to be. I love alien invasions but don’t have a lot of faith in someone making a good television show out of them. the remake of V was a total pile of crap, hopefully this will be better. Not sure how the plot is going to work were all the world’s armies are destroyed and yet a bunch of civilians are standing up to the invaders.
I guess I will tuning in on June 19th. There is a web comic which you can check out http://www.tnt.tv/series/fallingskies/webcomic/ . At first I thought the comic wasn’t going to be good but I ended up reading all 12 chapters of it one sitting.
